Demystifying AI for Healthcare Professionals - A Series!

Over the past 24 months, I’ve had the privilege of involving myself in the world of AI—through research, hands-on learning, model building and collaboration with amazing minds like Bargava Subramanian and Naveen K - Data scientists with an exceptional ability to translate complex models into relatable concepts.

While this journey helped shape my understanding, one realization stood out: The language of AI often feels out of reach for many of us in clinical practice—frequently too technical, too abstract.

So, Here is a series on LinkedIn—designed to make AI feel familiar. No jargon. No code. Just relatable clinical analogies and real-world context.

Clinical Lens to Explain AI Relatably

🧠 Post #1: YOLO - From Intern to Imaging Expert

Think of YOLO (You Only Look Once) as a diagnostic intern- responding at a single glance.

YOLOv1 (2016) was like a medical intern on day one—quick to respond but missing critical details, often making confident but incorrect guesses.

With every version (v2–v7), YOLO matured. It began learning from context, distinguishing between overlapping structures, and improving its diagnostic accuracy—much like a resident who’s learning to trust both experience and evidence.

YOLOv8, the latest, performs like an experienced radiologist—capable of analyzing complex images in real-time, flagging multiple abnormalities simultaneously, and doing so with great precision.

Whether it’s detecting fractures, identifying pulmonary nodules, or isolating subtle signs of pneumothorax, YOLO’s evolution reflects the very learning curve we follow in medicine—from observation to insight, from speed to accuracy.

🔗 If you are a clinician, paramedic or biomedical engineer curious about AI, follow this series. Together, let’s make AI more relatable in healthcare.
